Attackers leverage remote access software to maintain persistent control, execute commands, exfiltrate data, and pivot within compromised environments, often blending malicious activity with legitimate administrative actions.

Remote access software provides attackers the capability to remotely control compromised systems through various mechanisms:

  • Legitimate Remote Access Tools: Attackers frequently utilize legitimate software such as Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), SSH, TeamViewer, AnyDesk, LogMeIn, VNC, and Citrix solutions.
